My Playlist: June 25, 2009

Here’s what I have piped into my ear canals of late…

  • Trenches: The Tide Will Swallow Us Whole
Can’t stop listening to this. On one level, it’s like Zao meets Pink Floyd; on another, it’s like nothing I’ve heard before. Wish I could create visual art this fresh and personal.
  • Misery Signals: Controller
My vote for one of the best metal albums of all time. So good on so many levels.
  • Morrissey: Who Put the “M” in Manchester?
A mature Morrissey delivers his signature drama and teenage angst amidst a truly unique and musically sophisticated sound.
  • Bruce Hornsby and Friends
Not much needs to be said about Bruce Hornsby. A virtuous musician with the creativity and musical background to execute inspired improvisation.
  • Phish: Walnut Creek (live)
Another group of improvisational giants, Phish proves that unfettered creativity mixed with technical “chops” can create surprising and magical moments. Great stuff.
